Being Thankful

I truly am grateful. Two and a half years after publishing my novel, Tree Soldier, wonderful things have been happening. The story of the CCCs in the Pacific NW and Park Hardesty, the honorable hero who doesn’t feel he’s honorable due to a past mistake, has found its audience . And for me, most importantly, I have found the amazing family members whose fathers and grandfathers lived and worked in these camps 80 years ago.

Yesterday, at the Bellingham Public Library ( Nov 7), I gave my Humanities WA talk on the CCCs. It’s part of Bellingham Reads. The library chose Tree Soldier as their November read and already readers are coming up to tell me how they enjoyed it or told some story about their fathers. Even sweeter, a veteran of the CCCs in Minnesota came and I gave him the floor to tell his stories. So rewarding. So I thank them all.

Off on a Grand Adventure

Truly the most amazing thing that has happened to the novel, in addition to the EPIC ebook award and grand prize from Chanticleer Book Reviews, is the Lewis and Clark Valley choosing Tree Soldier for its Everybody Reads. It’s an amazing, pinch me honor. I’m leaving in a couple of days for a very busy tour. I get to go fishing on the Snake River in Hell’s Canyon, a trip of a life time. And this is schedule:

Thanks to everyone who has supported this journey. Chanticleer Book Reviews, all the public libraries, especially Bellingham Public Library, Whatcom County Library, and King County Library. And Historical Fiction Ebooks and The Fussy Librarian. The latter will feature Tree Soldier on Nov 16th. My own local indie bookstore, Village Books, should also get a hug. I get to hug them back on Saturday, Nov 30 for Indies First. I’ll be hand-selling some favorite novels of mine for them, even a girlhood favorite.

New Adventure

I’ll continue to work on Tree Soldier and my CCC boys, but I plan to have Tree Soldier‘s prequel, Timber Rose out in December. Until then, I’ll keep on writing.
